A conversation led by Bruce Lemon and Carene Rose Mekertychian

Join Bruce and Carene for a healing space to be together, breathe together, and focus on radical self-care. This is your community, and your community is standing with you.

Open to Black artists only.

At MeetCute LA we believe Black Lives Matter as such we will be dedicating a space to Black Individuals to heal and connect. At this time this space is solely for our black community members. Thank you for standing with us as we uplift Black Lives!

Creating Space - White Artists Step-Up For Anti-Racism!

A conversation led by Katie Lindsay, Hannah Wolf & Carly D. Weckstein.

A space for White artists who want to step up in solidarity. This space will be specifically focused on the list laid out in the open letter to White American Theater (or We See You, White American Theater). Want to talk about accountability and change in the artistic workplace? This is a conversation about holding ourselves accountable for the fight for racial justice.

Resumes, head-shots, reels, oh my! It can all be a bit overwhelming; but have no fear, Henry's here. In this course we will break down all the elements so you can focus on what you are meant to do; act. By the end of this course you will  know exactly what to put on your resume and casting websites, receive a list of great head shot photographers, advice on audition preparation and a free reel edited by yours truly. (Please have clips available. Your reel will be 1 - 1:30 mins long). Look forward to laying the foundation for your acting journey. Class is limited to 15.

True Rhymes for Complex Times: The Matt Schatz Musical Theater Lyric-Craft Workshop

Are you a playwright who always wanted to write lyrics for a musical? Are you a songwriter who is curious about musical theater lyric-writing? Award-winning musical theater writer Matt Schatz was once both of those things! In this short workshop, he'll give you an overview of how to craft a theater lyric, complete with samples, examples, followable tenets, and breakable rules, all to help inspire you to make your characters sing. Class is limited to 20.

Larry Powell is an award winning actor and Carnegie Mellon graduate! In this class, he’ll go over the essentials of telling a story from an actor’s perspective, from what the actor’s job is in the storytelling process to what it takes to execute the actor’s job with excellence!

In this workshop, award-winning director Jessica Kubzansky will cover how directors develop and communicate their vision, both to the artistic team and to artistic directors. This will be a chance for directors to talk with Jessica about what initial inspiration is around the work and how to share passion for the project, both with a design team and cast (and how it evolves as a result of collaboration), and even before that, how to express the passion and the vision so that people are excited to program it.  Class is limited to 10.

For MeetCute Directing Alums only

An opportunity for directors to gain a foundation of concepts, language, and practices that empower you to run theatre spaces through a culture of consent! We'll cover communication & boundary basics, how to look at staging intimacy as choreography, how this work can enhance and deepen performance, getting creative in the face of challenges, and when you need to bring in an intimacy director. In this time where we are going through a collective trauma connected to touch, it will be more important than ever to mindfully negotiate the closeness of bodies when we return to our rehearsal rooms and stages.

All good artists steal, so why not (legally) steal a piece of writing that isn’t your own to aid in the process? What if you start with a song, a poem, a discarded note you find on the ground (after you’ve sanitized it), the back of a cereal box? Using found text in your writing can expand your dramatic world, free up your voice, and cause you to write plays beyond your wildest imagination. Come explore the possibilities!

A director's "bootcamp" for developing language about a play and your vision to then engage with designers. Developed from Elinor Fuch's "Visit to a Small Planet," we'll spend time talking about how to define the world of the play and what that world contains
